Puff Counter FAQ

Yes. Counting puffs, the calendar, the nicotine estimate and the small home screen widgets are free. Premium adds the quit plan, the detailed statistics and the medium, large and Lock Screen widgets.

No. You tap once per puff, in the app or on the home screen widget; nothing is measured from the device itself. Tapping takes a second and keeps you aware of every puff, which is the point.

Yes. Without an account everything stays on your phone and we never see it. Signing in with Google or Apple adds a cloud backup, which is what puts your history back when you change phone.

iPhones on iOS 15 or later and Android phones on Android 7 or later. On iPhone the widget's plus button needs iOS 17, because that is the first version where a widget can do something without opening the app.

The first time you open it, the calendar and the charts are filled with sample numbers so they are not empty, and a banner says so. They disappear as soon as you log your first real puff.

Add a Puff Counter widget: press and hold an empty spot on your home screen, open the widget list and pick the size you want. Its plus button logs a puff without opening the app, and the count on the widget updates right away.

It is an estimate, not a measurement. Each puff counts as the puff volume you set (in ml) multiplied by the nicotine strength of your liquid (in mg/ml), and the day's total is the sum. Both values are in Settings, and changing them affects the puffs you log afterwards, not the ones already counted.

Premium feature. In Smart mode the plan starts from your own recent average and lowers a daily puff limit step by step until the quit date you picked, and tells you whether that pace looks gradual, balanced or aggressive. In Manual mode you set the limit yourself. You can change either one at any time, or turn the plan off.

Yes. Open the day in the calendar and tap the count to add or remove puffs. Any past day can be corrected the same way.

Yes. Counting, the calendar, the widgets and your settings all work offline, because everything is stored on your phone. If you have an account, the cloud backup catches up the next time you are online.

Install the app on the new phone and sign in with the same Google or Apple account: the history is restored from your cloud backup. If you never signed in, the history only ever existed on the old phone.

Open Settings and tap Restore purchases, with the phone signed in to the store account you bought Premium with. If it still does not appear, email support@puffcounter.app and we will sort it out.

Premium is a store subscription, so you cancel it where you bought it rather than in the app: on iPhone at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions and on Android at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. It stays active until the end of the period you already paid for. A lifetime purchase is not a subscription, so there is nothing to cancel.

A tap on the widget is counted immediately. If the widget lags behind the app, your phone's battery saver has probably paused the app in the background; opening the app once brings the widget back in step.

39 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. The app follows your phone's language; on Android 13 and later you can also give it a different language from the rest of the phone in the system settings.

In the app, open Settings and tap Delete account and data, then confirm. That removes the cloud backup and the account, and the data on the phone goes with it. It works without an account too, and the full explanation is at puffcounter.app/delete-account.
